General Impression
Overall Rating:
/ 10Being new to the whole volunteering experience, I was nervous at first at how I could contribute and help. The warm greetings at the volunteer center and from all the people I met cleared all my doubts.I spent the mornings in a beautiful Nursery where I taught English and assisted the teachers in all teaching duties. It was delightful conducting assemblies and monitoring Band Practice. The smiles of these little kids fill one's heart with immense joy and satisfaction. They are so full of life and have the capacity to entertain you all day. The Teachers are very welcoming and included me in various teachings and arts activities in their respective classes. I got to join them on a picnic to a local Buddhist temple. I was even invited to all the teacher's houses for a meal. Everyone here is very accommodating and the kids grow on you very quickly.Teaching these kids has been the greatest joy of my life.
In the afternoons, I taught at the School for the Blind and Deaf, which is far way from the city(the ride everyday is scenic). The super-talented kids here taught me Sign Language the first day, so that I could teach them English, Maths and Computers for the next two weeks. I had a great time teaching them and helping them improve their Math skills. It is a big responsibility knowing that these kids can go for Higher Studies with help from volunteers. It was very emotional on my last day of teaching as they had grown very close to me. I'm still in touch with the school staff and love hearing about the kids developments and updates.
In the end, this experience has taught me much more than I thought I would learn. I met many new people and made many new friends. Memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I will be back before you know it!
