General Impression
Overall Rating:
/ 10Wonderful experience!I worked 2 weeks in the Animal rescue center in the city of Turrucares.
The atmosphere was welcoming and easy going.
Every day we worked in teams with various tasks: cleaned enclosures, fed animals, created enrichments for the animals, did some garden works.
We had enough time to rest as well.
There are a lot of comfy wonderful hammocks on the territory and a refreshing swimming pool where we were spending our middays.
In the evenings there were some activities organized.
Once a week we could take a day off. There were organized one day trips to nature parks every thursdays. So we could visit these places on our days off.
The dorms were for 12 people, but they were quite nice.
As for food it was great. Diverse and tasty!
The infrastructure of the center is very cosy, we were living in almost wild nature with tucans and iguanas to live nearby.
Country
Very diverse animal world.
But unreasonably very expensive.
Costa Rica is a developed country, so it's safe here.

Project & Staff
The idea of the project is really good. The owners of this center are very devoted family. They do their best to cure anf help the animals in trouble.
The staff is very welcoming.
It was nice and easy to deal with them.
They do care about the animals as they don't let us interact with many of them, because there is a chance to release them.
We together were ingaged in enrichments for animals, for them not to get bored in their enclosures.
The staff is constructing now bigger enclosures for some of the animals.
The only thing which I did not get there was bio and eco education.
In Russian reserves and nature parks we organize for our volunteers profound educational programs.
I think its necessary to explane to people from all over the world the peculiarity of this country. To describe them flora and fauna of Costa Rica.
Volunteers should know more about the features and habits of the animals of this rescue center.
And it's very important to read at least 1 lecture on ecology problems and human impact on nature.
On arrival day every volunteer has an excursion around the center, but to my mind its not enough.
Though I do understand that they may have no enough staff to do it.

Tips
It's mainly a youth camp. So young people feel there as a big international family.
But seniors come there as well.
So if you are in doubt, please don't!
Age is not a problem there at all.
Showers are warm and there are many of them.
No mosquitos. At least in March.
Shopping is available 3 times a week. More then enough.
Bar night is on Saturday
