/ 10Half a year ago me and my girlfriend started considering about going volunteering abroad and we found Love Volunteers, an organization that offered variety of projects including the one we have participated in - Teaching English in Albanian village.Boga, that village, is a gorgeous place. It is surrounded by mountains and is inhibited by a few hundred locals. We, along with another volunteer with whom we quickly became friends, were accommodated in school headmaster's home. He and his family were very hospitable and nice throughout the stay: 3 times a day we were being offered delicious local cuisine, several times we were taken hiking to the mountains and we were also taken to a gorgeous national park which is only a few hours away. Additionally, we lived in a very spacious room with a separate shower.
Talking about volunteering, it can be summarized in one word - awesome! We were going to the local school (from 1st till 9th grade) which had around 20 children (though the number of students varied from day to day). Our main task was to teach them basic English. For the first few days it proved to be rather complicated, because general level of English is VERY low, thus communication with students, especially younger ones was challenging. On top of that, Albanian boys are crazy about football and it is their major interest, thus if I would have to go there again I would definitely think of some activities for boys. Girls, on the other hand; were very curious and devoted students and were even prepared to take homework! In 2 weeks there we managed to teach them basic phrases, useful words and some tenses.
Reflecting on our experience I can say that we had an unbelievable experience, which helped to grow our personalities and showed us how different life can be in relatively remote corners of the globe. Love Volunteers, thank you for making this possible!
