/ 10I had the most incredibly experience in Guatemala. I fell in love with the country and the people. Getting the opportunity to volunteer there really did open up a world of emotions inside of me. I felt very welcomed, appreciated and supported there. My host family left a print on my heart and made my experience so special! When I go back to Guatemala (which I most definitely will) I plan of visiting them again. It felt like home to me which is more than I ever expected. Lastly the children and mothers I go to bond with were out of this world amazing! They taught me so much about what it means to be a woman and a child in Guatemala. As for the organizations I got to work with they to were nothing sort of helpful and so very kind!! I can’t say enough good things about this trip. Truly changed me and for that I am forever grateful!Tips
It is helpful to learn the language before going. I knew enough to get by but Google translate definitely filled in the gaps for me. Another note is to bring pants/T-shirts’ and long sleeves as wearing anything else on the project sites is generally not culturally appropriate.
